Imaging for Windows is NOT included with Windows XP

Global360 Imaging for Windows compatible with Windows XP

Global 360 Imaging for Windows was previously Wang, Kodak, eiStream and Eastman Imaging for Windows

Kodak Imaging for Windows (kodakimg.exe) was included in the Microsoft Windows operating system starting with Windows 95, up to and including Windows 2000.  The versions included with Windows are supported by Microsoft.
Imaging for Windows is not, however, part of Microsoft Windows XP. It is not legal to install Imaging for Windows from older versions of Windows on Windows XP. For Windows XP and Windows Vista you must purchase a licence to use Imaging on each PC.

Beginning with Windows 95 OSR2, Microsoft included with the operating system an application and a set of ActiveX controls referred to collectively as "Microsoft Imaging" consisting of image scanning, viewing/editing, thumbnail and administration controls, originally developed by Wang, then acquired by Kodak and subsequently named Eastman, eiStream and Global360.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has dropped these controls from Windows XP. Imaging for Windows is currently available from Alliance Group, see Imaging for Windows for more details.  This product installs two applications - Imaging for Windows and Imaging Preview - together with ActiveX controls that are accessible to external programs. The current release of Imaging for Windows is upwardly compatible with those versions included in earlier versions of Windows and adds additional features such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The imaging ActiveX controls are required for a number of other products, including Alliance Imager document management and Alliance BatchScan document scanning.

Judging from the number of Internet searches for "wang + imaging", "microsoft + imaging", "kodak + imaging" and "imgedit.ocx" etc. there appears to be considerable interest in these tools. It is not however possible to use the old Windows versions in Windows XP.

A new version of Imaging for Windows (release 2.8) can now be purchased for use on Windows XP and Windows Vista (and previous versions of Windows). It is compatible with the Imaging for Windows included with the earlier versions of Windows and now includes Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and other enhancements.

Global 360 Imaging for Windows was previously known as Wang, Kodak or eiStream Imaging for Windows or Imaging Professional.
